We got the opportunity to connect with drew let’s see what he had to say...
KingdomSoldNYC: Introductions! Tell us who you are and where your from?
Drew: I'm Drew Smith from Philly, Philadelphia PA
KingdomSoldNYC: How did you get into music to be more specifically faith based music?
Drew: I grew up on music with my mom. Always having her make me sing certain songs. So i grew up singing incitially a bunch of rnb records and stuff like that. Around the age of 11 we got introduced to church and I started forming my relationship with Christ. Of course singing on the choirs and stuff like that and I knew I wanted to make music but I didn’t know what facet. One day I was at a Hip Hop concert in a church in Philadelphia and from then on I was like Ok I can do this. From there I started writing and trained myself to be good at it.
KingdomSoldNYC: That’s whats up. You recently released your first single “Wanna Be” which is off you soon to come EP titled “A Dream Never Dies”. Every song has a story what’s the story behind wanna be.
Drew: We finished the project and we wanted to take it a step further to do an additional 2 records. Our intention was to use these two records to push for radio and media to try build a buzz for the project. So throughout the writing process I came up with melody, so wanna be is basically a record about wanting to be who God wants me to be but at the same time having a lack of support from family or people that are the dearest and closest to you. A lot of times we have the pains of parents or those close to who see something else for you other than what you feel you should be doing or what God has for you. That’s pretty much what the record is about. It’s an anthem and record for people that’s been in that place. A record where people can be comfortable being free and being themselves and who they know God has called them to be. Then being relentless about it and trusting Him in that process.
KingdomSoldNYC: Is there anything exciting that we should look forward to? You got the Ep but anything else you want to share.
Drew: I’m always performing and I usually put everything on the website- thedreamer.com. Eventually get on tour, interviews with radio and just really trying to push and get the record in many different cities as possible.
KingdomSoldNYC: Any shout outs you want to give
Drew: My producer, Kevin Mayfield also from Philadeplphia PA for investing in me and investing in this project and everyone else who supports the dreamer, thank you!
KingdomSoldNYC: Our favorite question, for anyone that may come across this interview any words of encouragement for them…
Drew: Yea, I want to say... We all have dreams and visions. A lot of people allow those things to die. The cemetery is full of people with possible books or fortune 500 companies, so I just want to encourage ya’ll to really press into what God has called you to do. Have that faith to know that even if it seems impossible at times, God is a God of possibilities- He can make that happen for you. So be encouraged, push for it and don’t let your dreams die!
